Can hair grow back after Balding?

April 7th, 2022 by

Balding

Balding and hair loss can be quite a distressing experience for men and women alike. However, one thing to know about hair loss is that if an autoimmune disease or genetics causes it, hair loss can be irreversible. However, some treatments help make the hairloss progress slowly, which addresses the issue due to which the hair loss gets triggered. For instance, hair loss can be triggered by hormonal problems, undergoing anti-acne treatment, or using bad Hair styling products. In such cases, it also takes three months for the hair to grow or reverse the hair loss.

Before understanding whether or not a hair can grow back after balding, it is important to understand the three main situations that cause balding.

1) Male Pattern Baldness

This baldness occurs in men in the middle of the head or temples. It is also referred to as androgenetic alopecia. Surprisingly, male pattern baldness contributes to 95% of male hair loss.

2) Alopecia Areata

Alopecia Areata refers to balding as patches on the skin in which the hair grows. It is an autoimmune disorder that damages the hair follicles without causing any textural changes in the skin. However, the damages are irreversible. The condition can also resolve within a year in some cases.

3) Telogen Effluvium

This refers to the shedding rate of the hair and can return to normal. It is induced by stress or the birthing process in women. However, the shedding rate goes back to normal after a few months.

Hence, whether or not a hair can grow after balding is a question that can be answered on what caused the balding in the first place. There are many techniques and methods which have been introduced by medical research to regrow your hair in certain situations. Hence, while this is happening, one needs to be patient and trust the process.

If you have alopecia and are looking to hide the bald spot, then your best option is to get a non-surgical hair treatment.

non-surgical hair treatment is the best option in this case, as you can have a natural look without changing your lifestyle. For instance, if you love sports and taking a hair shower, you can do all of this without any hassle.

Yes, it is the best course of treatment for individuals who have a bald spot. Surgery is also an alternative, but it should be considered a last resort when none of the treatments work.

However, you can resort to medications if you are at the onset of balding, like when you have a thin hairline or a visible scalp. For instance, introducing Vitamin D into your diet can help you in the long run. This includes consuming milk, fatty fish, mushrooms, walking in the sunlight, and more. Apart from this, iron deficiency can also cause male hairloss, balding and even female balding too. Hence, incorporate iron in your diet, which can be found in leafy vegetables and meat.

Other deficient causes of hair loss include omega-3, biotin, and proteins. Making such changes in your diet can help you grow your hair density if you are at the onset of balding. However, growing your hair back is not easy; it takes time, and you need to be patient with it.

Tips to avoid hair loss

  • Use DTH blocking shampoo if you have a history of male baldness in your family. This is because DTH Dihydrotestosterone or licorice can restrict the growth of hair. Some shampoos block DTH and reverse male baldness.
  • Massage your scalp lightly with essential oils like Lavender, coconut oil, and others to maintain blood circulation and stimulate hair growth.
  • Discuss the balding with your doctor and check if the usage of medications like Finasteride and Minoxidil can make a difference.
  • Incorporate a diet rich in Vitamins, proteins, iron, omega-3, and more.

Conclusion

As observed, the answer to whether or not male baldness can be reversed depends on the underlying condition in which the hairloss occurs in the first place. Hence, it’s best to get a consult and find the root cause. However, if you have a bald spot and are looking for treatments, the non-surgical hair treatment is your best option. Hence, you have options and don’t stress about the same. Keep a patient mind, evaluate all your options, and make the best decision.

The Woes of the Wig

February 6th, 2017 by

The Woes of the Wig

For many years, the humble wig has been the recipient of some bad press. Old fashioned and unnatural looking hairpieces have led to the archaic view that all wigs are poorly-fitting and easy to detect. In the past, this might have been true, but over the last two decades, technology in the hair replacement industry has come a long way.

Wigs began life in ancient Egypt, where they were used as sunshields for people with shaved or bald heads. Other ancient civilisations used them as a fashion accessory, until the fall of Rome, after which they fell into disuse.

Sometime around the 16th century, wigs began to make their return, and their popularity was assured due to their uptake by several influential royal figures. They were also extremely convenient as a way of cutting down on unhygienic conditions caused by unwashed natural hair.

Before the end of the 17th century, wig making was considered to be such a prestigious profession that a Wigmaker’s Guild was formed in France, and quickly spread across Europe. Wigs were practically obligatory for men with any social standing at that time, and were made from a variety of materials such as human hair, horse hair, and goat hair.

The style and fashion of wigs continued to change and evolve over time, and didn’t see a true decline until the early 20th century. After World War 2, wigs became the refrain of people who wanted to conceal their hair loss. Unfortunately, due to the available technology at the time, it was difficult to make really undetectable wigs and people were often left disappointed with the results.

Now, in the 2010s the technology available to wigmakers is astonishing. Advancements in look, feel, and fit have all come together to make a truly undetectable hair replacement system possible. If you want to find out more about how our hair replacement systems work, all the information is available on this website.

How Does A Hair Transplant Work?

February 6th, 2017 by

Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure designed to relocate healthy and thriving hair follicles from one area of the scalp (usually at the back of the head), to a location where hair follicles are sparser and less healthy – where an individual is balding (usually on the top of the head).

Male pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia as it’s formally known, is caused by hair follicles which are vulnerable to a hormone called Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). These hair follicles becoming sparser as a result of a negative reaction to the DHT hormone, causing baldness in affected areas.

The areas at the back and sides of your head are less susceptible to the effects of DHT and as a result the hair in these areas remains healthier and fuller for longer. A hair transplant exploits this fact by relocating these healthy follicles to the area of the scalp where follicles no longer grow.

How Do Hair Transplants Work To Give You More Hair?

Hair transplantation is simply a process of relocating existing hair follicles from one area of the scalp to another, it is not as many people are lead to believe, a procedure for growing more hair.

Unfortunately the technology for re-growing hair does not yet exist, but there are techniques available here at New Image Clinics which give the appearance of more natural looking hair coverage using non-invasive, non-surgical techniques. For more information on these state of the art hair-giving treatments take a look at our hair systems pages or speak with one of our advisers today.

What is an FUE Hair Transplant?

A follicular unit extraction or FUE hair transplant is a form of hair transplant which transplants very small pieces of healthy tissue containing healthy hair follicles, from a thriving area of the scalp to a less well covered area.

The technique is often marketed as being a modern and cutting-edge technique, yet the science behind the procedure has been around since the late 80s.

Many people here in the UK have been duped into believing international companies offer a better treatment in this field. FUE Hair Transplant UK and international procedures are the same wherever you go, so individuals should not be convinced by marketing hype.

As previously discussed, hair transplants, whether FUE or strip harvesting procedures, do not give people more hair. They simply distribute existing hair more evenly over the scalp; effectively thinning the back and sides in order to fill out the top. As you can see from the image above- this kind of procedure can also leave you looking much worse before it begins to look any better.

For a procedure which actually gives an individual more hair- take a look at our hair replacement systems pages or speak with one of our advisors today. If your heart is set on a surgical transplant we can even supply you with a temporary non-surgical solution.

How Much Hair Loss Is Normal?

February 6th, 2017 by

Hair loss is a completely natural process, we all lose hair on a daily basis; it only becomes an issue when it falls out at a quicker rate than it is being replaced.

On an average day, a healthy human loses between 50 and 100 hair follicles. This may sound like a lot, but this lost hair is quickly replaced by new follicles which grow in to replace it.

If you’re losing hair at a rate faster than it is growing then there could be cause for concern:

Am I balding?

If you find yourself wondering “am I going Bald?” then don’t suffer in silence. The unfortunate social stigma towards hair loss makes many people embarrassed about their hair loss concerns; but you really shouldn’t be. The sooner you act upon concerns and discuss them with a hair loss expert, the sooner something can be done to ensure a better future for you and your hair.

If you’re worried that you could be losing hair then there are signs of going bald you should be aware of so that you can act quickly to save your hairline:

Look for hair around you: Check the places where hair gathers and see if you notice an unusually large amount of hair being shed. Some of the first places you may become aware of hair loss could be- in your bed, in the plughole, on your brush/comb or on your clothing.

Look to family: Genetics can often play a big role in balding. If your father or grandfather suffered from hair loss then there is a large possibility of experiencing the same symptoms as you grow older.

Stay Calm: If you’re suffering from stress or anxiety, hair loss can be accelerated by the hormones which are given off as a result of your worries. Worrying about hair loss is just about the worst thing you could do as it will simply exacerbate the problem. Seek advice early and gain reassurance and advice to retain your hair.

Inspect your hairline: It may sound like a joke- but often the first sign people have that they are balding is feeling a breeze or slightly cooler on top. Check for bald patches or a receding hairline in the mirror.

If you have noticed any of these signs of going bald, or suspect you may be losing your hair for any other reason, call New Image Consultants today and get advice from experienced hair specialists who can better advise how to move forward.

Do Hair Transplants Work?

February 6th, 2017 by

With so much conflicting information available in the public domain, it is no wonder people find themselves wondering “Do Hair Transplants Work?”

This is a difficult question to answer with a simple yes or no, as many people have very different expectations of what constitutes a success.

Many people are unaware of the limitations of international and UK hair transplants. Here are some limitations you should be aware of:

  • Hair transplants don’t give you more hair- they simply relocate healthy follicles from areas of your head where they are still thriving and place them in an area where they are thinning in order to give a more even coverage.
  • Hair transplants aren’t instantaneous- you will have to have your head shaved for the procedure, and you will have to wait for the hair to grow back at its natural rate- this can take weeks even months.
  • There will be scarring- It is a surgical procedure so scarring is inevitable. This can be particularly unsightly as your head will be shaven. People will know that you have had a hair transplant. There is no way of hiding it until the hair grows in.

Unlike hair transplants, our non-surgical methods are non-invasive, affordable, instant, and provide a completely natural and full head of hair.

Hair Transplant Before and After

The before and after images which you tend to see in promotional material for hair transplants shows an initial bald patch miraculously vanished thanks to a surgical procedure. This is at best highly misleading. The reality is that hair coverage is rarely a complete success, and at best takes a number of weeks if not months to grow in.

Contact New Image Clinics today to restore your hairline instantly, painlessly and effectively.

It’s Like Garnish For My Head – Karl Pilkington’s Hair Replacement

November 26th, 2015 by

It’s a sad fact that hair loss begins earlier than we might want, and that it completely changes the apparent shape of a man’s face – which completely changes everything else about their appearance, from how people react to the way you wear your facial hair right down to which glasses frames, if any, suit you.

Watching Karl Pilkington try a hair replacement solution on a second-season episode of The Moaning Of Life has been a revelation for many men; he speaks openly and honestly about his reaction to the process, and even when it’s only partly done, as he considers the progress so far in the mirror, it’s clear that he likes what it’s done for him, even if he’s not sure what that says about him.

In many ways, that sums up the dilemma most men with male pattern baldness face; is it a sign of embarrassment or weakness to do something about it? Should you feel guilty for preferring how you looked with hair?

Karl definitely doesn’t think so; the smile on his face by the end of the segment makes it clear that for all his initial misgivings, he’s glad to have taken the plunge, and it’s that moment which has galvanised many men into doing something about their long buried frustration.

He talked about how much younger he looked, calling the process a “time machine” back to 1993 – not bad at all for an episode filmed 22 years later. Karl feels younger, rejuvenated, and refreshed; no wonder his initial misgivings have ebbed away.

As well as what it’s done for Karl’s self-confidence and self-image, as well as those of the countless other men who’ve taken the plunge worldwide, you have to remember that how you look matters to other people, too. We shouldn’t, but we do all make value judgements on how someone presents themselves, their overall appearance, and the way they wear their hair – and how much of it there is – is definitely part of that assessment. In life and in business, the first impression can be crucial.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=gZeUxaw4Zgc

Karl looks younger right from the off. His signature goatee beard no longer seems an old man’s chin scruff, but instead fits naturally with the hair the stylists have designed for him.

Hair replacement solutions are custom-designed and tailored to each individual client. They must be – any two men with identical hairstyles will look vastly different, and it’s unlikely that they’ll both look as good as each other.

When booking these treatments, we consider it a priority to arrange a consultation before any work is done; the solution offered needs to fit your lifestyle, and it should be tailored to exactly what you want your new image to say about you, and what you’ll be comfortable with.

Before and after galleries of our procedures are also available, to help you see how your own look will adapt if you follow Karl’s lead and take control of your look back.

Culture of Hair in China

July 15th, 2015 by

“The body, hair and skin, all have been received from the parents, and so one doesn’t dare damage them.”

These are the words of Confucius, an ancient Chinese philosopher, who believed a great deal in being respectful of your elders. These words went on to have a great effect on Chinese society and how they thought of hair. Keeping your hair long was important, because it showed proper respect to your parents.

In 1644, a new dynasty took over China. Under the new Qing dynasty it was a requirement for all men to wear their hair in a hairstyle known as a ‘queue’, shaved at the front and braided into a long ponytail at the back. The penalty for not having a hairstyle like this was death, and it was a law designed to keep people in their place.

So, especially from 1644, the combination of respect for your parents and the death penalty meant that long hair on men was a must in China. A sure sign of being a rebel was to cut your hair short, and while times have certainly moved on, the association of cutting your hair with rebellion still exists.

You can see that hair was very important in China, and it was especially important in showing your freedom. We believe that all people should be able to wear their hair however they like, and that includes using a hair replacement system to recreate a natural hairstyle. That’s why we’re dedicated to giving you the full head of hair that you deserve.

Hair in Ancient Egypt – Similarities and Differences

March 12th, 2014 by

This is the first in a series of articles which take a look at hair and hair styles and how over the centuries they have come to influence our views and attitudes in the present day

The history of Ancient Egypt is long and complicated, so of course hairstyles and what they meant were changing all the time, much as modern hairstyles do. That being said, we begin by looking at the significance of hair during the famous New Kingdom period, the most important period in Ancient Egypt.

In the New Kingdom hair was worn long, and women’s hair was very decorative, with ribbons and flowers. In order to keep an element of hygiene and practicality many Egyptians would shave their heads and use the hair to make wigs so they could have a fabulous hairstyle without the troubles of actually having long hair. Because of this, hair became a valuable commodity, which people would buy and sell in order to create the wigs and conversely, the wigs would reflect the individual’s status and style.
Some Egyptians preferred to keep their own hair intact and even as far back as the New Kingdom, inevitably many would experience hair loss and balding and just as happens in the present day, a number of those experiencing loss would try different remedies, including fir tree resin or applying chopped lettuce to the bald patch.

Wearing lettuce on your head!!! Luckily hair treatment and replacement has come a long way since the times of Ancient Egypt, and while it might be a lot more complex, the end result is a head of hair which looks and feels fabulous, just as nature intended.

The Dangers of Propecia For Hair Loss

May 20th, 2013 by

At New Image Clinics, we’ve always stood firmly dead set against more invasive forms of hair restoration. This includes anything surgical and anything chemical. As a clinic of long-standing hair loss professionals and experts, we have met thousands of people who have gone to the ends of the earth and back to try and recover their hair, and their success is often limited.

Botched hair transplants, ineffective medication and bad wigs are easy pickings for the media on a slow news day, but it’s often overlooked how devastating these things can be to men. A poorly performed kidney transplant would never be considered amusing, and any other surgical procedure should be treated with the same brevity of humour.

Something far more prolific, and far more sinister than ‘hair transplants gone wrong’ are so called miracle cures, chemical supplements which claim to stop, reverse and eliminate hair loss. While some of these medications may have a minimal benefit for some users, there are many who experience no change. Then there are those who experience the truly awful side effects caused by these medications.Propecia Tablets

Propecia is one of the most widespread of these wonder-drugs, but many people who use it don’t know what they are risking. In 1997, the American FDA refused to support an application for Propecia to be recommended for treatment of male pattern baldness, and that should have been the eye opener for most people, and they have issued further warnings about the drug.

Additional cautions from the Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency in the UK have since followed. Perhaps the most concerning thing is the FDA’s placement of Propecia into pregnancy category X (meaning it has been known to cause death and birth defects in foetuses), alongside the knowledge that it can be absorbed through the skin; merely handling a crushed Propecia tablet can spell trouble for a pregnant woman.

Recently Propecia has been causing a stir again, this time because of the links between use of the drug and suffering from debilitating depression, anxiety and sexual problems. What’s more, these symptoms can remain indefinitely after the sufferer discontinues use of the drug.

Dr Irwin Goldstein, president of the Institute of Sexual Medication has commented on the issue, suggesting that instances of these side effects may be far more prolific than studies have shown, due to the reluctance of many men to come forward and admit to experiencing them.

To us at New Image Clinics, using chemicals and taking medication to combat hair loss has never been an acceptable course of action. This is just another black mark on the long track record. Far more effective are the kinds of non-surgical transplants and hair replacement systems we offer. Get in touch today for side-effect free hair restoration.

Causes Of Hair Loss

December 17th, 2012 by

There are many factors which might cause or contribute to hair-loss, and a substantial amount of these are often totally out of control of the effected individual. Around a quarter of men begin the process of balding by age thirty, and about two-thirds begin balding by age sixty; for a lot of people, losing some or all of their hair is almost a fact of life. There is almost a 60% chance of having the ‘baldness gene’, and the onset of hair-loss can be as early in life as the late teens.

Alopecia is the medical name given to baldness or hair loss. There are a variety of types of alopecia, with androgenic alopecia being the name given to pattern-baldness or genetic hair loss. Traction alopecia is a type of hair-loss often found in patches where there has been irritation to the scalp. One of the primary causes of traction alopecia is wearing the hair in a braid or ponytail which is too tight and pulls on the follicles. People who have their hair in dreadlocks or cornrows are at the greatest risk of traction alopecia, though anyone who frequently wears tightly fitting headgear are also at risk.

Another cause of alopecia is as a side-effect from a variety of medical procedures. The most high-profile of these being cancer hair loss caused by cancer treatments, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which can cause not only hair loss on the head, but across the rest of the body also. However, alopecia is a possible side-effect of a variety of other drugs including steroids.

Alopecia can sometimes also be caused by an auto-immune response, where the body’s white blood cells are stimulated by an infection but attack and damage the hair follicles instead. Fungal infections can cause hair loss in the same way, by damaging the follicles. The rate of alopecia in people with other auto-immune conditions is higher than in people with healthy immune responses. These conditions include hyperthyroidism, diabetes and vitiligo.

Whatever the reason, hair-loss can be a distressing time in a person’s life. It can effect self-confidence and have a large impact on a person’s body image. In men, especially those who are in their thirties, the onset of balding can be perceived to signal the loss of youth and the definitive beginning of the ageing process.

Here at New Image Clinics, we understand hair-loss. We have been working in the field of non-surgical hair restoration for men and hair systems for men for more than two decades, and have seen technology create some huge advancements in hair loss treatments. Despite the prevailing sense of the 90’s, societal views towards hair replacements have changed, and it’s well known that several high-profile celebrities have taken the hair transplantation route.

While society has become more accepting of hair loss and the treatment for it, one thing that is now seen as more reprehensible is making a decision without being fully informed of all the aspects and factors involved. At New Image Clinics, our hair replacement experts will individually assess the needs of each and every client before suggesting a course of action.

Our cutting edge hair replacement systems are suitable for nearly everyone, and are so advanced that they are totally indistinguishable from natural hair. Hair replacement systems have such a huge number of benefits, especially when compared to the surgical hair transplant equivalent.
